@deer_and_doe_patternsI made the shirt in a viscose twill and it's lovely. I'll make another but take an inch off the length (I'm 5'8"). I sized down by 1 so it wasn't too big after comparing the pattern to a couple of ready to wear shirts I have. The sew was fairly straightforward apart from the cuffs which I had to do twice for some reason. It was my first traditional shirt make and the instructions were generally clear. I have a kit from Guthrie & Ghani which comes with an extra tips video which was useful.
This fabric is beautiful and warm. Not soft to the touch like flannel, more like bouncy and squishy. There is a black batting or stuffing in between layers, and it actually falls out of the fabric. It even leaks out of the selvedges, which is strange. You need to serge ALL the edges before washing. Also, I cut all the fabric pieces ¼" larger than the pattern piece, and serged them as well. Once you contain that black fuzz, the fabric is great. I wouldn't try buttonholes, but an easy jacket with binding on all the edges and a tie closure looks nice. It really is interesting fabric. I love the jacket.
It's so hard finding 100% cotton knits. This sewed up really nicely but be aware that when you first wash it there will be fuzz everywhere.
Instead of unboxing an order I truly felt like I was opening a meticulously wrapped gift.
The black and graphite are equally luxurious to the touch. Followed the included fabric care tag and was amazed at the results. I'm hoping to sew the Deer and Doe Opium Coat pattern from Closet Core.
Honestly don't know how I ever successfully graded a seam before! Sharp, smooth and easy.
I made the sweatshirt version with top stitching in a camel sweatshirt material and find it both flattering and comfortable. Very happy with the pattern and look forward to trying the hood and cross over version soon!
