Fabric Suggestions From Core Fabrics

What You’ll Need:

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

  • For the jacket body: midweight wovens with a bit of drape? We suggest mid to heavyweight linen and cotton with some drape, viscose blend suitings such as gabardine and bengaline, and traditional wool suitings like tweed, flannel, crepe and boucle?
  • Please note: tightly woven, smooth surfaced worsted weight wool suitings (ie. Super 120s + 150s) are not recommended since they can be difficult to fuse using an home iron.
  • For the lining: rayon bemberg, charmeuse, crepe de chine?
  • Optional: For the pockets: sturdy cotton like shirting, quilting cotton or muslin (0?25 yd / 0?25 m)

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES

  • Midweight weft or knit interfacing
  • 0-20: 1?5 yd (1?4 m)
  • 14-32: 1?7 yd (1?6 m)
  • Please note: Weft interfacing is preferred since it provides stability and structure to your fabric without compromising drape; a soft knit interfacing works in a pinch, but avoid stiff, crisp interfacings.
  • Optional: Cotton stay tape, 1/4" (6 mm) wide x 0?5 yd (0?5 m) for reinforcing shoulder seams
  • Matching thread
  • Buttons, 6 x 5/8"-1" (16–25 mm)
  • Optional: Flat button, 1 x 5/8"-1" (16–25 mm) for securing the underlap of the blazer
  • Marking tool
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Tailor’s ham + clapper
