I cut this project out at home and took the pieces in my bag with basting thread, matching garment thread, beeswax, good quality hand sewing needles, straight pins, scissors and clips in a loc n'loc on a two week week road trip.
I worked on the t-shirt in the evenings. I had used a fabric remnant with a nice stretchy bounce to it so the sewing was quite easy; I just made sure I basted all seams before I backstitched them and then whipstitched them together. The neckline seam was flattened down with two rows of spaced back stitch. I did not use the optional back neck piece.
It was a very clear pattern and an easy one too to practise my hand-sewning on. I like the boxy fit on my body. The only thing I'll do in the future is grade a slightly bigger neckline as I find the neck a wee bit high for me.
Thank-you so much for this free pattern. I'm sure I will make it again and again; maybe I'll even try a machine sewn one!
I’ve always been terrified by sewing knits, but recently bought a serger and decided it was time to conquer my fear. Because I loved the Carolyn pj pattern, I decided my inaugural knit project should be a Closet Core pattern because the instructions are straight forward and very clear. What a fabulous pattern and I made myself a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt on my serger with relative ease! It fits wonderfully and I really like it. I’ll definitely be making more of my own t-shirts using this pattern. Thanks for creating a pattern that is easy to make and looks good.
Very happy with how this T-shirt turned out! Super clear instructions, and I ended up with a well fitting shirt. Only thing is it is cropped - and I don't have a lot of cropped things - so am learning it definitely looks better with some pants/shorts than others on me. I wore my shirt one day while watching tv and a character had on a similar shirt so sharing that for a pic for a laugh :)
This is a fast easy and satisfying make. The fit is terrific, pattern and instructions are very clear. I’ll be making a lot of these with both short and long sleeves. 2 thumbs up!
This t-shirt is the perfect basic for my wardrobe. I love the fit and have already made four versions. Three for my everyday outfits and one for the gym.
This pattern has worked great with cotton spandex, rayon spandex, merino jersey and polyester interlock.
I see many more in my future!
