Learn How to Sew Clothing is a comprehensive online class that guides you through the entire sewing process and teaches you how to sew clothes from first stitch to finished garment. The first section of the class will walk you through all the key information you need to know to get started. In the second section, we will show you how to construct all three of the garment patterns included with enrollment. You'll develop the skills necessary to sew a modern boxy tee or shift dress, a classic flared skirt, and chic pants or shorts, opening the door to your wildest fashion and sewing dreams. Our Rome Pattern Collection (sizes 0-32) is designed with beginners in mind, and can be mixed and matched endlessly to create a chic, modern capsule wardrobe.
Our Fiore Skirt is a classic A-line skirt with a twist; choose between a simple flared skirt, an asymmetrical wrap skirt, or a button front option. Our Cielo Top & Dress has a modern, boxy shape with multiple lengths and sleeve options. Finally, our Pietra Pants & Shorts are the comfy but sophisticated stuff of dreams, with a sleek, paneled flat front and elastic in the back for the ultimate in comfort. Heather Lou is the force behind Closet Core Patterns and Core Fabrics. As a pattern designer and sewing educator, she has been writing and teaching about sewing for over a decade, and has taught thousands of people to sew, both online and in sold-out sewing workshops across North America & Europe. Welcome to theclass that will easily teach you to make your own clothes! To get sewing, click on the button at the top or bottom of this page, choose your pattern format, and you'll be automatically enrolled in your course after checkout. The link to login to the course will be sent to you via email. Please check your spam folder if you don't receive it after finalizing your purchase.
When does the class start and finish?
The beauty of Closet Core Patterns’ onlineclasses is that you call the shots on when they begin and end. Learn to Sew Clothing is a completely self-paced, online course, which means you get to decide when you start, when you finish, and how many times you replay it.
What will I need to get started?
Before you get started, we’ll share a complete supply list, along with information about where and how to source everything on said list. At the very least, you’ll need a sewing machine, iron, scissors, pins, marking tool and fabric.
How long does the class take to complete?
It’s up to you! To give you an idea of how long the entire class is start to finish, the first section of "beginner basics" runs just over 5 hours long and comprises 9 lessons total. The second section, which focuses on specific techniques for each pattern, has a runtime of 3.5 hours. Binge watch them in a weekend, or do a little at a time. You can return to the class as many times as you’d like, and there’s no time limit for you to complete in.
How do I get my patterns?
Please choose between PDF format (in sizes 0-30, which you can print at home or at a copy shop) or print patterns we'll ship directly to you (currently only available in sizes 0-20). If you select the PDF format, you'll be able to download your patterns immediately after checkout, or by using the download link sent to you via email. Print patterns will be shipped in 5-10 days.
Can I used any pattern when following along with class?
This class covers everything you need to know to sew your clothes, so feel free to use any pattern you like when following along! The second section focuses on techniques specific to the the three included patterns, but these tutorials can be applied to other patterns as well.
How long can I access the class?
All day, ‘erryday. But for real, this class includes lifetime access. After you enroll, the class is yours, which means you’ve got unlimited access for as long as you like, across all devices for all of eternity.
